@felix: You're going in the correct direction, but the unexpected nature of the answer is what is tripping you up.
@Godlike1889: As this is just a trial run to show the process, I'll confirm it does. In fact that brings up a point about writing riddles. The original riddle submitted was basically a quote of the riddle presented to Bilbo, which everyone seems to be somewhat familiar with. Clearly on its own it isn't immediately obvious what the solution is and plausible answers are too plentiful. The parts I added (blue) were to demonstrate why such a riddle doesn't work and how it might be "corrected" for the purposes of this contest.
Hint Three: The "key" (to finding the answer) is time. (not much of a clue now is it :P)
