This isn't a shoujo if that's what you are asking. While this being a josei you can "smell" the hand of the female writer through the events, the story is moving enough and the characters can create enough sympathy for the reader to stick to them through the happenings of the plot.
The story won't spit flowers at you nor present you with badly written love triangles between generic designs; the
dryness and realism in the story is one of it's strongest points and with that you can get glued to it despise your gender.
And Daikichi is kinda cool in a collar worker kinda way, so yeah.
