AnimeSuki Choice Awards 2011: Nominations
Nomination Phase
Voting Phase
Welcome everyone to the 2011 AnimeSuki Choice Awards! Every year for the past five years we’ve been holding a competition where members of the AnimeSuki community can vote for the best anime of the year. There have been some changes to the awards since last year so please read the rules and voting procedure. Award details
- The Awards is organized in a two stage format:
- A nomination phase, where you can nominate up to three anime for each category. The top 41 (four) from each category is selected to move on to the next phase, the voting phase. You are allowed 3 (three) choices in every category, one that will count as 2 (two) points and the others will count only as 1 (one) point.
1 In case of ties the number will be raised to whatever is necessary to allow them all to move to the next phase.
- A voting phase, where everyone will vote for 1 (one) out of all the nominees that got though and determine the winner.
- To be eligible shows must meet the following criteria:
- Tv, OVAs, ONA and Specials must have ended airing/been released in 2011
- Movies are only eligible if their DVD/BD releases were in 2011 and are not part of an ongoing series.
- DVD/BD extras and specials are not eligible in any category.
List of eligible Anime:
Anything not on the list is NOT eligible and votes will be deemed invalid when processed.
If you think an anime meets the criteria but is not on the list please contact us.
Quick Start
Vote tallying is automated this year so pay attention!
You may vote in the following categories:
-{A1}- [Action/Adventure]
-{A2}- [Fantasy]
-{A3}- [Science-Fiction]
-{A4}- [Mystery/Horror]
-{A5}- [Comedy]
-{A6}- [Slice of Life]
-{A7}- [Drama/Tragedy]
-{A8}- [Romance]
-{A9}- [Fanservice/Ecchi/Moe]
-{A0}- [Sports/Game/Hobby]
-{B1}- [TV series]
-{B2}- [Movie/OVA/Shorts]
-{C1}- [Storyline/Plot]
-{C2}- [Adaptation]
-{C3}- [Original Story]
-{C4}- [Female Main Character]
-{C5}- [Male Main Character]
-{C6}- [Female Supporting Character]
-{C7}- [Male Supporting Character]

-{D1}- [Visuals/Animation]
-{D2}- [Opening/Ending Song]
-{D3}- [Soundtrack]
Just copy the text above and paste in your post then write after each category (that is after the category name, not inside) your favorites separating each by a comma. If you do not wish to cast a vote in certain category just delete the line with the category. The category name along with their tags (ie. A1, A2, etc) and their formatting must be present as written above, or the vote will not be counted.
For character categories all entries must be in the format: Character Name / Series Name (or Character - Series if the character or series contains a / too, or you just prefer it that way). If it contains both make sure the ones in the names don't have spaces. The correct version of both separator variants is with the extra spaces.
That's all there is to it, have fun!
If you require examples or a more indepth explanation, along with information on how to make your post more fancy, read the How-To Guide bellow:
Spoiler for Indepth Guide to Voting:
How-To Vote
This year the vote tallying is automated. This means it's faster, we'll post periodic updates so you know how things are going, you can edit your vote any time! up to the last minute, and a number of other things such as fancy statistics.
However, this also means you're vote will be much easily disqualified if you use some funky posting style. Don't worry about typos, using shorthand names and other small nuisances, the system is clever enough to figure them out as long as your shorthand isn't too ambiguous (ie. could refer to two series in equal measure). Judging by last year, 95% of people should be fine posting like they did then.
The gist of it
To vote for any category please start by writing (or copying) the category code (code + name) which look something like this: -{X}- [Some Category] All the characters there are mandatory, and must apear as-is. You are however allowed formatting, such as bolding or coloring if you wish to pimp-up your post.
You now have two options when it comes to placing your votes in the category:
- Inline votes
To post on the same line, simply separate your entries via comma.
- Multi-line votes
To post on multiple lines you must use the [list] tag.
You can type it in, like so: [list][*]item1[*]item2[/list]
Or, you can use the little list button at the top of the editor ().
Everyone loves an example!~ ?
Let's consider two imaginary categories "Random" and "More Random" and let's say their codes are: -{R1}- [Random]
-{R2}- [More Random] Let's also assume we have only four shows we've watched all year long! - 24-year-old L.O.L.I.
- Nice Boat: Shippers heaven
- Banana and Nuts
- Powerlevels
We don't really know what random means, and we don't care for that complicated philosophical stuff like genres so we'll just vote first 3 in Random and last 3 in More Random. So our post would thus look like this:
Quote:
-{R1}- [Random] 24-year-old L.O.L.I., Nice Boat: Shippers heaven, Banana and Nuts
-{R2}- [More Random] Nice Boat: Shippers heaven, Banana and Nuts, Powerlevels
|
That sure is a lot of text, but no problem we can get away with less:
Quote:
-{R1}- [Random] L.O.L.I., Shippers, Banana
-{R2}- [More Random] Boat, Nuts, Power
|
Maybe we should write on multiple lines?
Quote:
-{R1}- [Random] -{R2}- [More Random]
|
This covers all you need to know to vote. Read the continuation of this example for more in-depth stuff...
Ye' complicated stuff
On second though the Random category isn't random enough for us, so we're not going to vote in it.
There abstained from voting in Random. But what if we want to comment?
Quote:
-{R2}- [More Random] - Boat
Anime needs more boats!
- Nuts
squirrels unite!
- Power
|
The above uses the [indent] tag but you can use [quote] just as well.
Let's Formato!
Quote:
-{R2}- [More Random] - Boat
Anime needs more boats!
- Nuts
squirrels unite!
- Power
|
Oh but I have a brilliant never ever heard suggestion for improving the awards!
Quote:
-{R2}- [More Random] - Boat
Anime needs more boats!
- Nuts
squirrels unite!
- Power
[feedback] contest needs moar caek!
[feedback] let's work hard to add even more random categories
|
The keyword here is [feedback]. Any line (regardless of length) you precede with this will result in it being picked up by the system. When multiple users post the same (exact) line the system will not register two entries but up support for the original entry. Post ideas like this so they don't get lost in the thread(s)! you can also gather support for your ideas or others ideas using the system (check the periodic reports). However, you can't just spam this on every post, to keep the threads clean (i.e. discourage you from making 100 posts) you may only use it in your post with the votes; anywhere else will be ignored.
That's all, have fun!
If you have any other questions or problems feel free to post them in the thread.
If you require information on what each category refers to, please refer to the following descriptions:
Spoiler for Category Descriptions:
-{A1}- [Action/Adventure]The Adventure genre is a work in which the protagonist or other major characters are consistently placed in dangerous situations. The Action genre is a class of creative works characterized by more emphasis on exciting action sequences than on character development or story-telling. You may vote for any anime that can be described by either the Action genre or the Adventure genre, or both.
-{A2}- [Fantasy]Fantasy is a genre of fiction that commonly uses magic and other supernatural phenomena as a primary element of plot, theme, or setting. Fantasy is distinguished from Science Fiction and Horror by the expectation that it steers clear of scientific (or pseudo-scientific) and macabre themes.
-{A3}- [Science-Fiction]Science Fiction is a genre of fiction dealing with imaginary but more or less plausible (or at least non-supernatural) content such as future settings, futuristic science and technology, space travel, aliens, and paranormal abilities and phenomenon. Paranormal differs from supernatural in that it explores phenomenon that exist beyond our current understanding, research and technology (ergo they can't be disproven, nor proven, by science), while on the other hand supernatural goes directly against science.
-{A4}- [Mystery/Horror]Preferably Crime Fiction and/or Horror fiction (ie. fiction with macabre elements). Any other show that loosely fits the criteria, meaning it is some kind of detective fiction, or it is simply dark in its own way with the ideas it puts forward, is also eligible. Please try to avoid shows that just have "monster" elements in them, but are otherwise very light hearted.
-{A5}- [Comedy]There are many types of comedy. Usually in anime you'll find Alternative, Physical, Prop, Surreal, Sitcoms, just to name a few. Feel free to vote for any show that made you laugh, but please make sure that the comic relief came in more then one episode and was not simply a side-story to the main plot. Just because you laughed once doesn't make the entire show a Comedy.
-{A6}- [Slice of Life]Slice of life typically portrays mundane realism depicting everyday experiences. At the center is usually a character, or group of character, who are at crucial moment in their lives.
-{A7}- [Drama/Tragedy]A Drama is a genre that depends mostly on in-depth development of realistic characters dealing with emotional themes. Dramatic themes such as drug addiction, infidelity, moral dilemmas, just to name few, put the characters in conflict with themselves, others, and even society.
-{A8}- [Romance]Love stories, or affairs of the character that focus on passion, emotion, and the affectionate involvement of the main characters (usually a leading man and lady), and the journey that their love takes through courtship (and/or marriage). Please avoid putting romance in the same boat with friendship, parental love, love between siblings, and so on. There is no romance there unless the story is about homosexuals, incest, pedophiles, etc.
-{A9}- [Fanservice/Ecchi/Moe]Fanservice is material that is specifically aimed to please the fans. This can range from anything like some plot secret, or out of character scene, to just random things such as camera positions at strange angles. Ecchi shows usually focus on indecent/embarrassing situations, while Moe shows focus on "cute characters, doing cute things" style light hearted situations. Any shows that falls between there two extremes or has some other form of fanservice, such a good number of references/memes/jokes from pupular fandom (to give an example), is also eligible.
-{A0}- [Sports/Game/Hobby]Any show dealing with a game, hobby or similar activity, between characters. Please only focus on shows where the game has an integral part in the plot and isn't just a side activity in one or more episodes.
-{B1}- [TV series]Please pick the Tv shows you've enjoyed the most and you consider had the best production values overall.
-{B2}- [Movie/OVA/Shorts]Please pick the Movie or OVA shows you've enjoyed the most and you consider had the best production values overall.
| -{C1}- [Storyline/Plot]Please vote for the shows that either had overall the best storyline, or otherwise, had some of the best plot; meaning, even if the the transition all the way to the ending (or just the ending) was not fantastic, parts of that plot you found to be of top quality and lightyears ahead of the competition. This includes very intriguing backstories or other subplots as well. Please avoid basing your vote on plot that only goes for as little as one or two episodes.
-{C2}- [Adaptation]Please vote for the show with the best overall adaptation from a 4-koma, manga, novel, game or any other medium. You may vote based on fidelity to the source material, or simply best interpretation into the animated format, whichever you consider more appropriate for the show in question. If the story in question does not share a significantly large amount of plot to the source material (references to the source material not included) the story is not considered an Adaptation.
-{C3}- [Original Story]Please vote for best Original Story. Where original story means the show was not adapted or inspired from a 4-koma, manga, novel, game or other medium. Even if the show in question has elements from a certain source material as long as it doesn't share large part of the plot with the source it is still considered an Original Story.
-{C4}- [Female Main Character]Vote for your favorite female heroine. Bear in mind character development, integrity, internal conflict, and other elements that make a character play the role of a character as opposed to the role of a plot device. The criteria you use is left at your discretion.
This is a character category please use the format "Character / Series"
-{C5}- [Male Main Character]Vote for your favorite hero. Bear in mind character development, integrity, internal conflict, and other elements that make a character play the role of a character as opposed to the role of a plot device. The criteria you use is left at your discretion.
This is a character category please use the format "Character / Series"
-{C6}- [Female Supporting Character]A supporting character is a character usually used to give added dimension to a main character, by adding a relationship with this character, and other opportunities for character development. Please vote the best female character to fulfill this role.
This is a character category please use the format "Character / Series"
-{C7}- [Male Supporting Character]A supporting character is a character usually used to give added dimension to a main character, by adding a relationship with this character, and other opportunities for character development. Please vote the best male character to fulfill this role.
This is a character category please use the format "Character / Series"
-{C8}- [Antagonist]The Antagonist (from Greek meaning: opponent, competitor, rival) is a character, group of characters, or an institution, that represents the opposition against which the protagonist (be it a character or a group of characters) must contend. While antagonist may refer to a group or institution please only vote for one character that symbolizes the ideals, in those cases.
This is a character category please use the format "Character / Series"
-{D1}- [Visuals/Animation]Vote for the show with the best visuals (artstyle, aesthetics) and/or animation quality.
-{D2}- [Opening/Ending Song]Vote for your favorite opening and/or ending song.
Please use the format "Series OP#" or "Series ED#" where # is the number based on airing order (eg. OP1, ED2, etc).
-{D3}- [Soundtrack]Vote for the show with best soundtrack. Typically this refers to background music, action music or ambient music, etc. OP/ED are not considered because they have their own category. Voice Acting is also not part of the soundtrack.
