Well I admit I am definitely biased in their favor but I think Shouma & Ringo are in many ways the heart of the series. I love all their scenes together even the not so happy ones. And yes in some ways it's just a teen romance but that normalcy within the craziness is actually what I love so much because they seem real to me.
Anyways as for the rest of the episode I really liked it. I am interested in all the characters so getting to know more about Masako was a good thing for me as she was largely a big mystery before this point.
Spoiler:
While the episode had some drama it was also pretty amusing in its over-the-top ness. Masako's dreams were messed up and that guy speaking in English "Mr President" was hilarious
But is Mario's hat really her grandfather? That scene was freaky
Looking forward to seeing what little Kanba and little Masako spoke about.
If I am not mistaken this was the first time we saw the Princess of the Crystal and the Rock Over Japan scene since episode 12. I was wondering what happened to her. But still that scene was definitely a surprise.
And it seems so far all the "violating scenes or almost violating scenes" have been done by women (well excepting the Yuri & her dad thing but that was more a parent/child thing I think) which I also feel is a subversion.
And finally who are those "men in black" and what is Kanba actually doing for them.
Oh and I loved Esmeralda on the globe. She's such a fabulous penguin.
