From what I remember there are not enough people to create a viable population, so even if they were able to scavenge enough food, I doubt there descendants if any could survive for long.

I just not see a crew or their descendants living long in that situation.

The Normandy does not have enough crew members to sustain a viable gene pool or population. If the Grandfather is talking about a "creation myth" of Commander Shepard than I assume it has been many generations since. Even if the Normandy crew survived long enough to create descendants, those descendants would be horribly inbred and die off from rampant defects due to the concentration of genetic maladies (impaired disease resistance, increase of genetic disorders like retardation, etc)

What you are saying is that a crew, which is already very genetically similar (humans do not contain a lot of genetic variation at all), is put in a bottleneck situation in which only a few 100, if that, survive to reproduce. Edit: actually, now that I remember, I do not think the Normandy is even big enough to house 100 crew members. I doubt a viable colony sprung from that.

You are talking about an entire civilization/society having to persist from the gene pool deriving from only a handful of individuals. Even if every man and woman paired off and had as many babies as humanly possible, we are still talking about a very a fucked gene pool.

The only viable populations that would know the entirety of Shepard's tale would have to be close to Earth. Now that the Relays are gone humanity has to depend on regular space travel. The only viable population that could exist within proximity to Earth would be Earth (which it can't) or the Mars colony since they still in proximity of ship's warp drives and have more than 1 moon.

Again, I do not see the happy ending you are trying to make here. Then again, following Bioware's logic, anything, no matter how detached from reality, is possible. Magic will find a way, so maybe you are right.


edit: Now I am curious, did Bioware ever state how many crew members could fit on the Normandy?
