Despicable Me 2 is a direct sequel. There is a spin-off film though, to be released late 2014, that features the minions as the lead characters. As for DM2, all the main voice actors have returned, and Al Pacino has been added as the yet unnamed villain. Considering that Kristin Wiig is also returning as the head of the orphanage, it is conceivable that the sequel will feature Gru being forced to be good (or hiding his dastardly deeds) in order to keep social services away from his new children.
