The elder is always eavesdropping Kenichi and Miu's conversations about her parents. It took me some time to found the chapter, go and read chapter 192.
You can find there why the elder knows that Kenichi will be his heir.
I can remember when he gave to him the arm guards from Miu's father (with her approval also)
It's very fun re-read this manga, i even could find a conversation between Apachai and the elder where Apachai anticipated that he would die for Kenichi as his master.
Ahh... i laugh very hard with Sakaki in that chapter too
PS: The most sexy and beautiful woman in this manga is Miu's mom... by far.
