Battler truly is incompetent. A child could do better with the blue text weapon than he did!
Spoiler for Nanjo in ep1, Alibis, and 'Murder':
I earlier suggested that Nanjo was the staker. I stand by this theory despite the red text saying he is not a murderer. Battler infers this himself while studying the crime scenes in this episode: People could have simply been killed first and staked later. If Nanjo's actions never cause a person to die, he isn't a murderer!
It's noted that everyone had an alibi in Kanon's death, although I don't recall it ever being stated that an alibi has to be valid for a person to have one, so it isn't dispositive of their location. Granted, if Nanjo is the staker, Kanon's death would seem to create a problem if Nanjo staked him, but accidentally killing someone in a struggle or desperate moment isn't murder. If we assume "murder" means a deliberate killing, people could be "killed by other people" and not be murdered, if they were killed unintentionally or accidentally. For instance, if you believe Eva killed Rosa and Maria in ep3, it could be that she killed Rosa but didn't "murder" her, then "murdered" Maria. You can still say that they were killed by other people, without inferring that both were murdered!
