Well, the problem with the list is that it represents a very specific (and probably very dedicated) group of people rather than the mainstream market at large. If we were to conduct a more representative survey, games like Okami and Gotchaforce would probably not top the charts. At the same time, Ogre Battle and Xenogears would probably be too old to hold prominent spots on a most wanted list.

I agree with you as this not being a representative survey, so we can't generalized its results to the mainstream market as you said. Even so it can't be denied that Sakura Taisen is one of the best selling galge in japan. Even the Higurashi game for the ps2 and Fate/Stay night DO NOT come close to Sakura Taisen in sales as you can see here:

Also you can infer that if Sakura Taisen was in the top of the list, we can tell that there still a very strong Sakura Taisen fanbase in japan.
