Spoiler for Divided Destiny, pt. 20:
Fate stared at the rotating image on the Savant's screen. No further words were exchanged between the room's two occupants as the silence settled in. Burgundy eyes stared at the black box. What Bardiche was doing was anyone's guess. It made no visible reactions as the lightning icon kept its steady rotation. At least until it found itself being embraced by its new owner.
"My very own Savant computer!" she giggled as if she had received the perfect present on her birthday.
The icon brightened for a brief moment. What it symbolized the computer was 'feeling' was anyone's guess. Embarrassment, surprise; only Bardiche knew.
"Sir?"
Hearing the computer speak in its synthetic male voice, Fate stopped her nuzzling of its outer frame. After realizing what she had been doing, she took a quick glance to make sure no one was around.
"Um, Bardiche?"
"Yes sir?"
"My first command as your owner is for you to never, ever mention what just transpired to anyone."
"...acknowledged."
Fate blinked at her computer. Did it just hesitate in responding? Perhaps these AIs did have some form of emotions? She wasn't sure, but after the stories going around about the Savant computers she made a mental note to pay a bit closer attention to hers. No more words were exchanged as she lifted up the cube and examined it. It was nothing spectacular or highly decorated. However sometimes simple was better especially given their current situation.
"Bardiche, what generation system are you?"
"Seventh generation Eden Savant computer."
It wasn't a top of the line eighth generation system, but she did consider herself lucky. The top Savant systems were usually given to the council members and heads of certain departments in the colony. Some of the scientists she knew through her mother had fifth to seventh generation Savants. Only a few like senior scientists or successful project heads had seventh generation ones. It would seem appear Uncle Gil had exercised a bit of his power here, too.
"Bardiche, what modules have you been installed with?"
"Current system has been installed with full research program package, data encryption and decryption for your current security level, direct vehicle control system, direct and indirect communication systems, and limited Eden network access."
From what she could recall from other Savant computers, this one seemed to be fully loaded. There were a few items not on it, but those were mostly department specific. The communication system would definitely come in handy. It meant that she could keep in constant touch with the tab and Command Center as long as she had Bardiche with her. Not to mention she wouldn't have to find a phone every time she wanted to call one of her friends to catch up on the latest gossip.
"Additionally encrypted recon data and simulations have been preloaded for your viewing."
Recon data and simulations? Fate wondered if they were related to the project she was to be working on once the Advance Lab was built. "Can you display the data?"
"Voice and visual recognition confirmed. Accessing..."
The icon shrank down and moved to the bottom-left corner of the screen to allow room for the various windows that opened up. She eyes scanned over the text files scrolling across her computer's screen.
"Reproduction data...environmental reactions...field test results...molecular deconstruction... Just what is all this?"
"Data has been compiled from abandoned Eden Advance Labs from project TF-66B."
While she hadn't worked in the Advance Labs before, she did know that experiment designation: terraforming. For the council to elect to send a mission to recover data from the old colony must mean it was very important information. Though what experiment would be that importa-
"The Blight."
Data from microbe reproduction rates, rate of generation of water, oxygen, and other base elements...it all made sense. This only confirmed what her mother had told her earlier about the evacuation being caused by the escape of a Eden-made microbe.
"You said there was also simulation data, right?"
"Correct, sir."
"What is the simulation of?"
The windows of text vanished, instead being replaced by a wire-frame representation of what appeared to be New Terra. Just north of the equator a purple dot appeared and slowly began to expand in size. A counter in the corner of the screen began to count up in what appeared to be days and months. As the timer rose, the purple mark began to spread across the entire sphere, seemingly faster towards the end. The timer stopped once the entire sphere was colored purple.
"Just what was that of?"
"Simulation displayed the latest results for spread of experiment TF-66B across New Terra given current data recovered."
Fate paled at the news. This microbe, the Blight, was designed to break down material to release water and other elements essential for terraforming. If it was really going to spread across the entire planet that meant there would be no place safe from it. And with humans being composed of mostly water...
"Bardiche, is there any data on a fail-safe for the microbe?"
"Searching...negative."
"What about any kind of counter agents or procedures to stop it?"
"Searching..."
She bit down on her lip, hoping that something would come up.
"Proposals have been made for means to counter the microbe, however-"
"However? However what?"
The simulation data disappeared from the screen, being replaced by the rotating lightning bolt icon.
"Urgent message from the Command Center to all Savant users: Prepare for immediate evacuation of the colony."
None of the colony's alarms were going off which meant that this was probably an early warning before it was sent out to the rest of the colony. "Evacuation? Why? Did they give a reason?"
"The Blight is approaching."
A) Contact whoever she can to warn them about the coming evacuation
B) Grab what she can and rush to an evacuation point
C) Change to Nanoha's PoV
