You are right of course and if they were just mage I will understand not realizing this. But later Thoma shows he can analyze Eclipse powers and he has some kind of energy detector that warn him about hostile presence back when he was berserker so: why he could not use those things? He has been training for 3 months already and while I get amateur mistakes can happen I really wonder why none of the others ever stop and ask Thoma to use his own scanners. Just saying that.
