I don't think it was forced to be honest because in terms of a romantic development she sort of has the edge over Eclair, who developed her feelings a little later. Plus, she was always interested in Cinque since she observed him in the human world prior to his first initial summoning in the first season. Eclair is getting there, but Milhi did confess her love for him after all.

When all else fails polygamy is always the answer. With Milhi being a princess and everything so why not, it could work out if she's okay with it.
