Thanks Langus and Itachi-san314! I guess as long as there's other entertaining elements to the story it should be a good enough watch.
Figured I'd ask the question as I was similarly skeptical about Naruto when I first decided to watch it, but was pleasantly surprised to see such a meaningful storyline unfold.
Ah well, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.
