In the first place, it was while writing SAO's later technologies that inspired him to write AW. When he wrote AW and submit it to Dengeki and got an award, SAO was still a (hobby) web novel, so it's not strange that he 'lifted' stuff there directly and use it here. Then again, he's free to do so and apparently keeps doing it.
