You know I had a funny thought. If the mystical gate had appeared in the US at lets say down town LA I could see all the gangs and NRA gun nuts making short work of of the medieval army long before the military gets there.
Hell the military maybe more preoccupied with stopping the riots and mass lotting by the civilian population before they even get around to securing the gate...
