While I loved Moribito, I've found that at least half the shows I love are not loved by Japanese otaku.
My understanding is Moribito did not do well financially. And, while I'm fairly sure DVD/BD sales aren't the only thing that is a factor in whether something gets a sequel, they probably do carry some weight.
