This episode was pretty.... eh.
Spoiler for Review; size for consideration:
First of all, I know Ryu07 wrote this and all, so I don't need people telling me that (like on other places I've been where I saw others saying that to others).
This episode wasn't as bad as others made it out to be, in my opinion. Like, the Rika scene (which is what most people seem to find the most distasteful) isn't too bad. Yeah, it's awkward and disturbing, but it's only about a minute long, so it doesn't really bother me. Actually, Satoko's scene disturbed me more than Rika's. The first half was very bland for me, with only one scene that really got me to laugh, which was Shmion in Angel Mort; the "BANZAI!" the SB make plus their arm movements made me laugh. Other than that it was more "What am I watching?" than anything else. The principal was amusing, but it wasn't enough to make me laugh.
The second half was a bit better in my opinion: both the baseball and Satoshi scenes really got me to laugh, and Mion's firing at Keiichi got me to chuckle as well. Then it seems to nose dive into an area where it doesn't know its own tone. I get the feeling that the True Hinamizawa Syndrome part was supposed to be funny ala the first episode of Rei, but it seemed to be taking it too seriously, and was just as bland the first part (Delusions of perversion. Oh, yeah, that's some serious stuff right there).
Good to know that the art quality has improved in time for this very important arc. Seriously, the colors that was used for the scene at the end was just gorgeous. Good to know DEEN has finally got this down in time for Higu's 10th anniversery.
Though, the preview for OVA 2 seemed to be the best part of the episode. I'm really looking forward to that!
6/10
