What makes you think he was trying to make it look like a suicide, or even if he cares that there is evidence of a murder at the scene?

I think he just doesn't want it coming back to him, and that's all. He was never in the room, nor did he hire a flunky. He set up this little scheme at the last minute when Schuwald's real son appeared, and he no longer needed a patsy to fake the part. He had already completely cowed the kid into playing the role, it only took a little push to make him go over the edge. This isn't even the first time someone would have commited suicide at Johan's prompting. His most potent power, it seems, is the ability to talk to people.
