Not necessarily. When it comes to Miu, kenichi is at his best. Maybe he sought to put Miu in that shape to test Kenichi's strength. If he dies, he's not worth it, if he lives then it's worth looking at more. While kenchi is said to have no talent he's shown tremendous progress in such a short time even managing to defeat those who had been trainin from a very young age.
