Vandalieu's soul is four crafting heroes stitched together by the reincarnation god, after the 4 had their souls crushed by the demon lord. So he's technically four different people (patchwork zombie style), with no memory of being any of them.

As for the overlapping time things (since the heroes Vandalieu is made from were thousands of years ago from what seemed like modern Japan when the time axis for these worlds are the same), that actually gets explained. There's a fourth world called Ars (it's actually Earth, but the author just used the English spelling for it instead of the Japanese one) where these heroes came from. It's currently probably turned into a far futuristic version of Earth by now.

And there's a fifth world that the demon lord came from that hasn't been brought up at basically all. I do wonder how the demon lord ended up in Lambda; it hasn't been touched on.

It made it really hard to take him seriously when he could've solved the protagonist easily if he had half a brain.

The only real two stupid moves that I've seen are the reincarnation god's every action (his character trait is simply being incompetent and half-assed), which is always done in half-thought-out manners and decided on the spot.
The second would be not scouting out the protagonist's kingdom before attacking it.
The story has brought up both of these points too and acknowledges they were lucky breaks.
Otherwise, the other villains haven't really been all that stupid. Careless, yes, but it's really hard to expect a 5 year old to put up any sort of fight and everyone more or less knows they can't be careless with him now.
