The troubles for Kotoura kind of reminds me of Natsume (Natsume Yuujinchou). The abilities differ, but something that makes you different from others that leads you to being rejected. At the age those abilities came out she just didn't have the understanding to stay silent. You hear things clearly as speech and react instinctively to that. Problem is the truth and having inner thoughts revealed leads to plenty of people responding poorly. Not at all surprised after her family collapsing she just started to try and isolate herself as best as she could. Still is stuck hearing all the terrible things being thought about her, but couldn't find a better solution.
Glad she found someone persistent enough to try and get close, along with not being shaken by her ability. If frankly the worst she has to put up with is his....colorful imagination that's not bad
