Its possible that they did that to cover their own tracks. Make it seem like all out destruction of colonies they attack is all they want.
Its also possible that finding a person is just one of the said objectives. They might still at some sort of mission to destroy certain things of humanity, so its possible that the colony destruction was secondary. I recalled Milais saying that if destroying the colony was their primary goal, the best way to go about it was to target the energy factory so it does seem like destroying the colony was not the primary objective anyhow.
With both Yurin and Decil just happened to exhibit said Newtype abilities, I won't be surprised if she is part or at least related to the UE somehow.
