If Clannad wasn't almost 50 episodes long that might have been the case that one or two would get only three or less episodes. Mei didn't get very many. Neither did Ushio. If we go by the Toei movie version, Fuko got none, Ryou was sort of absent. Kotomi got a blink and you miss her shot. All you get is Nagisa, Tomoyo, and Kyou.
For Air we only have one girl participate at all, as she's not even the one that made it to the Saimoe finals in 2005.
Kanon (2006) was long enough to give them all screen time, though I've not seen the 13 episode Toei version (2002) to see how short some of those appearances were originally.
