lol. Too bad I already posted all my discussion about Kaname in the manga thread. Oh well. Just one thing to say is that Kaname is a misjudged and a misunderstood character; both by those within the story and by the readers.

Spoiler for spoilers:
First of all, I hate the way he acts like HE IS NOT EVERYONES boss and goes on about that friendship crap when in fact he is just psychologically controlling them. (vampires)
Second, he said himself that he has an evil character...but no, you are not evil you just have major issues.
Third, I hate the way he uses Zero.
Fourth, for forcing Yuuki to be his "lover" in return for her past.
Fifth, he is sneaky schemer.
Sixth, he bitch slaps Aidou a lot
Ah anyway, he is just a very unlikable character.

Spoiler for major manga spoilers:
ONE: It was said in the manga that purebloods do have the ability to control other lesser vampires to do their bidding BUT Kaname chose not to use that power. So what the other vampires around him are doing is out of their own free will. That is why Ichirou was able to turn against him. So I can't agree with you here.
TWO: Kaname can be very cruel and he knows this; that is why he said that he himself is evil. He can openly murder Shizuka with very little regret and killed that vampire that attacked Yuuki at the beginning of the story with not so much as the blink of an eye. He can destroy Rido in revenge for his family and still kept that hatred of Rido strong within him. He is not hesitant to strongly and coldly reprimand his vampire followers and friends should they do anything against him regarding those he love. If that does not say cruelty, then I fail to see what else would. The only thing that saves Kaname from being outright sinister is the fact that he does all this for those he loves. But that still does not erase the fact that his actions are evil.
THREE: I admit Kaname does use Zero to a certain extent but he never does it to the point of bringing any harm to Zero. Kaname is forced to play his cards in order to protect the woman he loves, to protect his clan, and to protect the pacifist treaty he and the Headmaster has worked hard to set up. If Kaname does not push Zero in the right direction, there will probably be more harm to those around them than good; since we can see that there are many other vampires out there who are scheming for the destruction and control of the human race - and the one in their way is Kaname. If Zero does not want to be used and be a victim, he must learn to take action for himself.
FOUR: Kaname does not force Yuuki to be his lover. He asked her once, she agreed but even then he still did not bite her. When Kaname does come to bite Yuuki and return her to her vampire self, it is because he has to. If Kaname had not acted immediately Yuuki would have been captured by Rido and forced to drink Rido's blood by Ichiru (who was just one floor below them during that time). That is why Kaname said that she must awaken before she is destroyed. So it was because of the circumstance that Kaname was forced to turn Yuuki back to a vampire (and his sad expression shows that he regrets to an extent) in order to save her.
FIVE: Kaname schemes only to protect his clan, the woman he loves, and the pacifist treaty. As we see clearly, the vampire council and the vampire hunter heads are scheming as well, for the destruction of the peaceful coexistence between vampires and humans. In order to fight back, Kaname must make plans of his own. In order to have peace, one must fight. To fight is not bad in itself but the reason for why one fights determines whether it is evil or not. Simply hating Kaname because he has personal plans and not knowing why or for what reason he has those plans, is unreasonable.
SIX: This is not a worthy reason for argument.
