There's one more thing which I hope will be explained somehow:

What exactly is Mari's special property? Not only is she the sole survivor, she also appeared as big red blinking dot on Ekaril's HUD and caused her not only to fly over to her - ignoring the emergency hailings from Blue - but to even jump into the water to look for her. Also, Ekaril reacted surprised when she saw Mari sinking into the sea.

A possible explanation was that Ekaril was just scanning for survivors, but... something IS still special. See Hagino's initial reaction to strangle Mari, caused by her touch. Then, falling to the ground writhing in pain after the next touch. And eventually, the ability to hold her without repercussions. Then, to start some kind of joint dream...

It wouldn't be unusual to leave all of this unaddressed till the end, but I hope that this mystery will somehow be resolved.
