Problem is, he and Alicia were already a couple at this point in the game. I suppose considering the writer's skills they could do some sort of a stupid hack job and shove them together in a grudging fashion while sobbing and crying that their "Super Awesome Faldio-sama" should have Alicia instead.
Of course, they'll probably have a scene in the aftermath showing Alicia and Welkin married for a number of years before Welkin finally looks closely at his son and sees Faldio staring back at him.
