Yeah like someone said this is not what happened. The Feds merely placed economic and material sanction on Side 3. It wasn't until Deikun got assassinated by the Degwin Sodo Zabi that the Zabi family took over, converted the Republic of Zeon into the Principality of Zeon did Zeon declared full war on the Federation which led to the One Week War (where Zeon dropped colonies on the Earth etc).
Principality of Zeon in the UC universe had and always will be the symbol of pure twisted evil ideology (as if the whole based on Nazi thing didn't give it away already), pity the side stories always goes out of their way to make them look good and revise the history.
