Mahou has played into each's route of giga's Kissbell. At first glance the female cast resembles a lot the cast of HotchKiss from the appearance (not VAs). Moving on to the first point of "evaluation" the main character: Grrr ... Their other games had similar meh-mcs so no surprise here: super extremly useless @school, apologist, in h-scenes: "gaman dekinai", otherwise very generic. The word "misunderstanding" is very, very common for him
. All girls are likeable in their own ways and Tomoka as a side character is the trigger of all girl routes, i. e. in making Ichiou think about *insert girl* stronger.
Spoilers for each girl's route up to confession
Spoiler for Main heroines:
Chiharu: Her route was pretty normal, which can be considered as positive. She has a few funny scenes in the common route and her confession happened in-verse faster due to misunderstanding from her PoV. The beginning of their romance was not very icha-icha due to their lack of free time together.
Eri: As the local member of the school's public moral comitee you expect someone with a dislike towards the MC and his ability to walk into ecchi situations, but she's actually a good character. I like her interaction with the MC and into her route it gets simply more enjoyable. What was stupid beyond believe? The confession scene. I mean seriously, you have both with mutual feelings (alhtough unconfirmed towards the other) and the MC with a plan when and how to confess thanks to support from his friends. The day of days arrives without further problems(!) and at that time *bam* the plan failed to stupid reasons like a false message + Eri seeing a heavy misunderstanding scene between MC and Ayano which she thought of confession. When MC looked for her she was crying in the classroom, where the false message told her to wait at. Both thought their feelings were left unanswered: Eri due to the wrongly interpreted scene and the MC because she didn't show up at the correct location. Fortunately, they sorted things out swiftly and confessed to each other. I was like "WTF was Giga thinking" Why ruin an actual well-planned confession scene for something stupid?
Ayano: The indirect onee-chan is quite a mishivous/playful girl. Though, her teasing remarks backfired a bit in two routes
Her confession scene was uhm ... strange? It felt somewhat sudden and that reflected exactly in Ayano's reaction. Her reaction was actually quite funny during the period of confession and ecchi 1.
Yumi: Her character is a bit strict, but mostly due to her oberserving Ichiou (the MC) and her protective feelings towards Chiharu. Her route is one case were Ayano's teasing remark of an incoming relationship between Chiharu and Ichiou due to their spent time together had the opposite effect. Yumi broke down in tears just by the mere thought of this possiblity => her feelings were that strong towards Ichiou already. The confession happened soon afterwards and the "misundertanding" quickly sorted out. Ichiou just wanted advices from Chiharu as he planned to invite Yumi after the christmas event to hang out together and thus the confession afterwards + after Yumi jumped in his arms in relief and hugged him
.
Personally I liked the OST of Kissbell. Some of the background tracks sound quite beautiful.
TLDR: I still see absolutely no merit in making the male lead useless in schools. It feels poor for comedy reasons and serves more as a /facepalm reasons for his friends. Heck, it's even more stupid than the more-donkan-than-usual symptoms of other MCs because I can accept the reason why the MC needs to be somewhat oblivious towards the opposite gender and can be fine with it as long as it's not shoved into your face at every possible moment.
