Gods I hate double posting, but if anyone out there lurking could critique this I would be pretty grateful.
Spoiler for Between the Lines: The Queen of Blades:
Among the delinquents, the scum, the lowlifes that made up Skill-Out, there lay a question that was more often than not passed around.
Why did they call her Queen?
There was a verity of theories that were passed around in equal amount to act as an explanation behind it. Some said they called her that because, as their leader, she had imposed it on those who worked for her. There were others who said those beneath her called her such because they actually viewed her as a Queen. Nobody would be surprised to know that gender equality was a rare thing to come by in gangs. Rarer was the day when a boss of a group of delinquent males turned out to be someone who lacked testosterone. Doing so by climbing up the ranks certainly did wonders for her credibility as a leader and as a person.
People would still talk, say she slept with the right people to get what she wanted, but that’s all it ultimately was; talk. True or not as these theories and speculations were, the fact remained that she had worked hard to reach the place in which she stood now. Many would wonder why, many would ask what reason there was to strive for becoming a tiny Queen in a broken castle. To which all they would need to do was look and listen to understand.
There was no tragic story to be had here, no heartbreaking back story that one typically finds in any form of commonplace literature. Kurokami Yuugure, like any other youth, just made some bad choices in her life. Hung out with the wrong people, got caught up in the wrong things, which eventually brought her to Skill-Out. That was all there was to it, no death in the family or harsh upbringing caused this; nothing of the sort happened.
It just started as a thrill of the lifestyle that contorted and became something much more than that. Such was the effect the Darkness had on those who stepped foot in its boundaries. It changed people; it altered the outlook of the world around them. Just a glimpse into the abyss and everything one thinks they know about the world is abruptly turned on itself. Outlooks change, perception is altered, and nothing in the light feels real anymore.
Why did they call her Queen?
Because that was what she became; a tyrant Queen in a broken down castle. Whatever dreams she may have had before were dead, cremated, and tossed into the wind. The life she lived before was over, and the memory of who she used to be now stood as an ugly blight on her memory.
Kurokami Yuugure was dead, would stay dead, and the memory of that person would forgotten with time.
But the Queen, that was a name she would strive to keep from ever be elapsed. Regardless of what it took, what atrocities needed to be done, that name would forever stay. Unblemished by time and never misplaced by those who knew of her or the things in which she had done.
Being forever hated was much better fate to her in comparison to being put aside and forgotten like gum wrapper.
Many Knives Yuugure would live on forever as long as she had any say in the matter.
The Queen of Blades would forever be remembered.
