How much difference QP makes over CRF I don't know, but the reason I opted for CRF is I'm constantly seeing it recommended all over the place as achieving better file sizes at equivalent picture quality.

Just stick to CRF. Generally, the difference lies in that QP targets a certain "objective" quality for every frame, while CRF takes visual perception into account, allowing frames where a higher quality loss won't be as noticeable (such as high-motion scenes) to be compressed more. Treat it as a slightly variable QP. It maintains the same subjective quality throughout the video while lowering the filesize, meaning there's little reason to use QP unless you like watching action scenes frame by frame and want those frames to look crystal clear or something. :V
