Spoiler for Generation 3 Spoilers:
- Kio is the youngest of four children; Asemu and Romary's kids range from 13-19 and all still live at home together.
- Flit quit the Earth Federation Forces because of a severely traumatic experience he refuses to speak with anyone about.
- Flit has become an intensely angry, unfriendly person whose grandchildren find him unsettling. There was one instance three years before the start of Kio's story arc where one of the grandkids expressed sympathy for the sufferings the Vagans had gone through after being abandoned at Mars, at which point Flit went completely berserk, a rage that might have escalated into violence were Emily and Asemu not around to calm him down. The grandkids have been careful to walk on eggshells around him ever since.
- Emily and Asemu both have an extremely strained relationship with the extremely grouchy Flit. Romary and Asemu try to install an anti-military ideology in their children so that they're never given the chance to suffer the same traumas that Flit's suffered.
- Flit goes behind their back, however, and trains Kio in the art of Gundam warfare using a Mobile Suit Simulation videogame. Kio is the sweetest and gentlest of the four Asuno children, and Flit understands that he's therefore the easiest to manipulate.
- Vagans attack the colony where the Asunos live in the first episode of generation 3. Flit and Asemu successfully fend off the invasion, and even drive the surviving Vagans to retreat; however, Flit refuses to let the Vagans escape and chases them through the city streets, killing dozens of innocent civilians in the process.
- Kio is indeed a pacifist as most could have predicted, the suffering his grandfather has endured one of his primary motivations for bringing the war to an end.
