Well, it's true that he does want to get back at Tokiomi, but that doesn't mean that he isn't trying to save Sakura. It just so happens that, in his mind at least, the two co-incide....

He has basically condemned himself to an agonising death to save an innocent girl, and I don't see how that can possibly be anything other than admirable.
