Only real income a manga-ka gets is royalties from tankouban sales. I can imagine what's happening to L*S manga sales right now. Aside from the OL references, I believe as an otaku he's loving all those ota-references. Like I've said before, Haruhi is family. L*S plugging Haruhi is normal and fits the story.
