Like someone pointed out earlier in this thread, the suit is extremely similar to the
RX-78, down to the head, shoulders, and skirt armor. The only difference is the torso, which seems to be like that of the Exia... So maybe that's why you were confused (plus the fact that the Excia, like most lead Gundams, resembles the RX-78 a bit anyway).
