My bet is that Shiryu is having a Goku moment like in the Cell Arc where Goku could have beaten Cell himself but he pulled back and wanted Gohan to fight -several EPs before he clearly stated to Shun the it would be easy for the old legendary saints to win and help the new bronze saints but then the new saints would not grow, Shiryu obviously wants Ryuho to grow and learn during this time they have together instead of him taking care of everything.
Also Shiryu didn't go naked in the preview - so he can't be getting serious.
