My first Gundam series was Wings too. My favourite was Destiny but became my least favorite after the 13th episode. However, Wing really didn't drew me in to the anime and fanfiction writing until I finished watching
Evangelion on my 14th birthday (purely conincidential that I had), which was also the second mecha anime series I've watched.
Seriously,
Evangelion still stands out as one of the greatest anime series in the world. It's amazing how Hideaki Anno was inspired by the original Gundam series to create Evangelion.
