I'm going to have to go with
mdauben on this one. The definition as presented on animesuki is so broad as to be nearly useless; the female lead in nearly every "Harem" manga could, if you tried, fit under it. It makes more sense--in a purely functional, if no other, way--to limit the magical girlfriend genre to those manga with female leads that are more obviously "other" (Belldandy, Narue, even Kozue (from
Mahoraba).
