We interrupt your regular program with a piece of nostalgia.
Well, I guess its mine alone. Sadly, I never got around to playing The Secret World, as so the planned fic got cancelled, and all scribbles archived.
However, I was reading through some scraps today and found something really cool. Maybe you might not get the context, but this is when another certain Level 0 who is not misfortuned was brought to a certain legendary ship.
The faction is Knights Templar. Crack inbound:
Spoiler for The Ark:
“You mean, all this metal, computers, screens, the throne, all of this, was built by Noah?!” From her exasperation, saying that Ayane was overwhelmed with disbelief would be an understatement.
“In exact terms, no.” Jeremand said as he stepped onto the bridge. Joan, who had been silently listening up till now, acknowledged and relinquished her place to him. “We commissioned Doctor Park about twenty years ago to make repairs and upgrades to the original Noah’s Ark. She was rather enthusiastic about the job, and gave us a lot of extras... including this throne room and the other 70% of this vessel.”
“But that’s... impossible! This ship is at least 10 kilometers long! There is no man-made structure this large--”
“The Bible spelt it out clearly, my dear,” the Grand Marshal corrected, seemingly enjoying the growing excitement of the young girl. “Noah built a 3.5 kilometer long water-fast vessel with room for over 8000 species and a navigational system far ahead of its time with nothing more than a mallet, God’s gifts, and his family, and accomplished that feat in 3 months.”
The old man turned to face squarely at Ayane. “What do you think he could have achieved with not only God’s blessings, but the matter-telesma replicators and the abundant arcane knowledge of magic and engineering that we possess, backed up by a workforce of a thousand devoted men, and a little over 15 years to work with?”
“Okay, yes, I see, but, how is this mountain of a ship flying?”
“Because the original could fly.”
“Because the original could what?!”
“There has been no archaeological proof that a Great Flood once flooded over the mountains, and yet after buffeting the sealed contents around, God set the ark down perched on the pinnacle of Mount Ararat. That was the biggest clue provided by the Bible.
“Our knights only managed to locate the original Ark in the 1950s based on spy photographs captured by the US Air Force of the Ararat mountains. It had far deviated from the original resting spot due to movements in glacial and tectonic flows, but it was still in the mountains, and buried deep in ice. With the Covenant installed, the Arca could reactivate the ship, and to our surprise, we smashed free of the ice and were flying.”
Nakano had her jaw to the floor.
“It needed both a tremendous source of telesma and a person with divinity as its captain,” Jeremand surmised with a smug look on his chiselled face. “But it does not change the fact that Noah’s Ark was a magical skyship.”
