If they are indeed aliens, then first contact is already fairly disastrous. From what we know, other than the destruction of two colonies, the UE hasn't exactly waged an extensive operation purposed to bring mankind to its knees. We're just scratching the surface of the AGE universe, and so far we've only seen one view of the UE. Given there designation (Unknown Enemy rather than something more specific), I wouldn't be surprised if there were other opinions or theories about them (UE as terrorists, separatists, evil cult, time travelers) elsewhere. Grodek seems to have an idea, though.
