You should watch
Love Letter (1995). A beautiful movie about looking back at the past and dealing with grief. I cried till I had no tears left. Here's the trailer.
As for comedy tv shows, I most definitely recommend
Trick. There are 3 seasons plus a couple of specials and movies. Hiroshi Abe as a scientist and Yukie Nakama as a magician work together to solve "supernatural" cases which most of the time can be explained using science. I love their chemistry. They always poke fun at each other.
Oh, and do watch
Takuya Kimura's dramas (Long Vacation, Beautiful Life, Pride, Engine, HERO, Good Luck!,etc,etc). His recent dramas are not exactly my type of dramas but his acting still blows me away.
If you want something heavy, watch
Mother. A wonderful drama that highlights the relationship between a child and an adult, even though they are not real mother and daughter. Again, I cried a lot.
