I've finally caught up. I've said before that Okada Mari's love of off-kilter material is balanced by Kawamori's craziness, and I think that this episode proves this.
There's lots of good stuff going on, but what I like is that it shows how Yuuko is the Center Nova. It doesn't matter whether the position is formally given to her, or even if it exists any more. She proved to be the real deal through her actions, and that says more than any speech could. I think that it's also noteworthy that this is one of the best "going out in a blaze of glory" scenes I've ever watched.
It's also quite likely that this will be the last time the Center Nova will work like this. While someone else (or may someones) may get the role in the last few episodes, they're certain to not burn up like that.

I expect her to come back. Same goes for all the other missing Center Novae.
