Isn't Yuzuka carrying it so she ca bash doors when she thinks that Hibiki is in danger...or rather, was doing something to himself? The way I understood it, she's worried that Hibiki became unhinged after the whole "stranded in desert/killed a squadmate via self-defense/chased by cannibals" ordeal and might do something to himself. Which she doesn't want.

Hibiki is aware of everything, but keeps playing his amnesiac part to stop Yuzuka being anxious or something. Or maybe he finds it funny, I dunno.
