Historically sexual ignorance in Asia was normal. Girls are only
suppose to be taught the ropes by the mum the day before the wedding. Guys.. As usual, guys are just suppose to find out from other guys, probably also by visiting brothels. But that's just what happens before the information age.
The weird thing is it isn't religiously motivated. It's just tradition, that some things you just don't talk about.
Now in modern day of course, everyone can find out about ANYTHING they want, they just had to ask. Society had to adjust according to realities. You can't depend on ignorance any more.
