Anyway, I agree with you. Many shows a like go through it. Still, 'dark' is a bit too much. Given this 1st chapter, I wouldn't find strange it becomes more dramatic. It is
already more serious/dramatic if you compare to Haruhi-chan (I believe many was expecting something similar).
