He merged with the Tenrou Tree and absorbed the magic power into his body, because his magic lets him do that. The tree normally gave off that power, but now that he has it, he can do whatever the hell he wants with it. He's like a human Tenrou Tree who is evil and more picky about who he wants to have power than an ordinary tree with no sense of will.
