Sorry for the necro of the over two years old thread, but last I checked, that's how things roll here on Anime Suki.
Anyway, Little Busters! has changed my take on this a bit. Previously, I had a strong preference for unified over omnibus, but now I'm not so sure.
Here's why.
Spoiler for Major Little Busters! spoilers:
Little Busters has basically covered three girl's routes so far. We're also now a full 20 episodes into it, and that's a lot.
While I've enjoyed the show, I've really found myself longing for more romance in this. When it comes to romance, LB feels sterile compared to other Key anime shows. And with at least two of the three routes covered so far, I think that added romance would have added a lot more "Oomph!" to the route, making them much more strong and compelling.
It doesn't help that the presumptive main pair of LB hasn't had anything truly approaching romance so far.
Now, I'm not saying that an anime needs to have romance to be good, but I do think the Key-style narratives tend to work much better with it than without it.
If LB was omnibus, each route would include romance. But as unified, romance is downplayed if not removed entirely, since the alternative would be to make Riki look like Makoto Itou.
I'm starting to think that Clannad might be that once in a decade exception of where unified simply
works. Otherwise, romance suffers.
Would Little Busters! be better if it went with omnibus over unified? Honestly, I'm starting to lean that way.
What do other people think?
