Also this is not the only series in which a comatose girl projects her soul into the physical world. I could mention one other popular anime where this plays a big role, but that would be a major spoiler for that anime so I probably shouldn't. Evidently this is some mystic gift a few people have. Or perhaps it's some kind of divine intervention to make sure that the right people get together.
