Have you heard about the beta testing?
GameReplays has a lot of information about it. A lot of the people there, including the head admin, were totally psyched for the game until actually playing it. From there, the spam and imbalance between races apparently killed all the excitement.
That, and apparently Games For Windows Live are really ruining it. Basically, to play ranked ladder, you MUST purchase a GFWL account (unless you own an XBox Live account already). Not only that, but all patches must go through the GFWL crew first... which will basically mean even balance patches will take forever to come out because they have to be approved.

Considering it's made by a lot of people who made the original CNC, it was looking really cool until M$ had to come and screw it up.
