I've said it before.
Erika killed Kanon. She obviously killed the other first twilight victims, so she was also planning on killing Battler. She didn't know that Battler left the room, and assumed he was hiding in the closet. As soon as she opened the closet door, she stabbed/shot the person inside, who was actually Kanon, not Battler.
It makes perfect sense to me, at least.
