Love Live originally started out as animated music videos. The characters were partly animated in CG then, it was easier for all 12 characters to be animated that way. So when they had the TV series done, they kept using CG for those scenes. Cost is part of it, but the other is to just keep the same trend and style as the MVs.

Thank you! I was absolutely not trolling, I didn't know there were music videos. A friend of mine just told me "check out this show about idols", and so I did. That's it, really. I'll be sure to watch them, then.
